Washington, June 1 -- The US' renewed efforts to secure a ceasefire between Israel and the Hezbollah have once again stalled, after Israel's forces expanded their ground operations in Lebanon and also asked Washington to greenlight its new offensives in the country.

The setback comes at a particularly sensitive moment for the Trump administration, which has been trying to reduce tensions in West Asia, in its bid to secure a comprehensive peace agreement with Iran. According to officials familiar with the talks, an end to the fighting in Lebanon forms part of the wider framework currently under discussion between Washington and Tehran, reports Axios.
