Washington, Oct. 2 -- The US is preparing to deploy a third aircraft carrier strike group and additional Marine forces to West Asia, potentially adding up to another 10,000 troops as tensions with Iran remain unresolved.
More than 50,000 US military personnel are already stationed in the region.
The planned deployment includes the USS Theodore Roosevelt carrier strike group, the USS Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and personnel from the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The ships, aircraft and troops are expected to arrive by late November, according to US officials cited by The Wall Street Journal.
