Washington, Sept. 3 -- US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has told people close to him that Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell would be his preferred choice to become the next secretary of the Army, according to several senior officials who spoke to CBS News.

Parnell, a former Army officer, currently serves as the chief Pentagon spokesman.

A Defence Department spokesperson declined to discuss the matter, saying: "The DOW [Department of War] doesn't comment on private conversations between administration officials."The White House is considering candidates to replace Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, who has submitted his resignation after months of tension with Hegseth.
