Washington, June 19 -- Israel and Hezbollah have reportedly agreed to a renewed ceasefire in Lebanon, according to two US officials, despite continued clashes between both sides even after the truce was set to take effect.

The development comes as Washington seeks to revive the delayed US-Iran negotiations, which were postponed after a sharp escalation in Lebanon.

A senior US official speaking to Axios said that the ceasefire, mediated by the US and Qatar, came into force at 4pm local time on Friday.

However, clashes were reported shortly afterwards. Israeli forces carried out strikes in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah launched drones toward northern Israel within an hour of the ceasefire taking effect.
