Lucknow, Sept. 25 -- Uttar Pradesh is preparing to preserve a part of its history that survives on rock surfaces and the walls of old monuments.
A proposed programme will digitally document and map ancient rock art, assess its condition and draw up conservation measures, alongside scientific care for murals dating from the 15th to the 19th centuries.
The cultural significance extends beyond the paintings themselves. Rock art offers clues to how earlier communities lived, understood their surroundings and expressed their beliefs.
Depictions of animals, hunting and dancing can help researchers interpret aspects of life that were communicated through images.
