Lucknow, July 7 -- Uttar Pradesh is expanding Buddhist tourism infrastructure in Lucknow with the development of the Tathagata Buddha Vihar at Sarojini Nagar, as pilgrim arrivals have surged over the past three years, officials said on Tuesday.
The Rs 75-lakh project, which is around 70% complete, is expected to strengthen Lucknow's position as an important stop on the state's growing Buddhist tourism circuit.
Officials said Buddhist pilgrim arrivals in Uttar Pradesh rose from over 47 lakh in 2023 to 61 lakh in 2024 and crossed 81 lakh in 2025. The upgraded Buddha Vihar is being developed to cater to the increasing number of domestic and international visitors arriving at Buddhist sites across the state.
