UP Assembly elections may be held early due to census

Vidya Shankar RaiLucknow, June 16 -- Assembly elections in Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, currently scheduled for February 2027, may be advanced by at least a month to avoid overlapping with the Census exercise. Senior party leaders said the move is being considered because the same pool of government employees is deployed for both elections and census operations, raising concerns over a shortage of personnel.

BJP leaders have intensified election preparations in these states.
