Bhubaneswar, July 24 -- A wanted criminal was injured in a police encounter after he allegedly hurled a bomb at a police team and opened fire while attempting to evade arrest in Odisha's Ganjam district on Friday, police said.
The accused, Kalia alias Ghanashyam Behera of Naitada Sahi under Purushottampur police station limits, is wanted in multiple robbery and dacoity cases, police said.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Purushottampur Inspector-in-Charge Kulamani Sethi launched an operation to apprehend him.
Police intercepted Kalia, who was riding a motorcycle with an associate, on the forest stretch between Kinari and Chunchipada under Kodala police station limits.
