Pratapgarh, April 10 -- An undertrial prisoner died after being severely burned in a fire under suspicious circumstances, at the district jail in Pratapgarh on Friday afternoon.
The deceased, Deepak alias Rahul, a resident of Unnao, had been lodged in jail since November 2025.
He was facing serious charges including molestation, criminal intimidation, abetment to suicide, and offenses under the POCSO Act registered at Kandhai police station.
The fire broke out around 12 noon, engulfing the prisoner, who died on the spot.
