London, June 30 -- British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday announced a sweeping defence investment plan that will raise annual military spending to nearly £80 billion by 2029, describing it as a necessary response to a "more dangerous and volatile world" marked by rising global tensions, Russia's war in Ukraine and rapidly evolving military technology.
Speaking at a defence manufacturing facility in Maidenhead, Starmer said Britain would increase defence spending by an additional £15 billion, taking total defence expenditure to almost £300 billion over the next four years.
