Panchkula, Sept. 18 -- The University Grants Commission (UGC) has warned universities and colleges of consequential action for failure to comply with statutory safeguards for persons with disabilities, while directing institutions to furnish data on admissions, recruitment, scholarships and fellowships by September 30, 2026.
In a communication dated August 27, 2026, addressed to vice-chancellors of all universities, UGC Secretary Prof. Shyama Rath stressed the "imperative need" to ensure full compliance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, across educational institutions under their jurisdiction.
