Mumbai, Aug. 22 -- The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has suffered a setback in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), with the caste certificate of former mayor and corporator Vishakha Raut being cancelled by the Palghar District Collector.
Raut's election as a corporator could now come under threat following the cancellation of her Kunbi caste certificate. She has been given a three-month period to appeal against the order.
Raut was elected from Ward No. 191, defeating Priya Sarvankar, daughter of Shiv Sena leader Sada Sarvankar of the Eknath Shinde faction.
The cancellation of the certificate could potentially lead to the annulment of Raut's corporator status, subject to the outcome of the appeal process.
