Mumbai, March 21 -- Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) chief Uddhav Thackeray launched a sharp attack on the ruling government over the fake godman Captain Ashok Kharat case, stating that strict action must be taken not only against fraudulent babas but also against their followers.

Thackeray pointed out that Maharashtra already has an anti-superstition law, and if even those expected to uphold the law are falling prey to such godmen, then action should also be taken against the devotees.

"Only then can Maharashtra be called truly modern," he said. He added that while efforts are being made to move the state forward through sectors like logistics, some leaders are indulging in superstitious practices, which he criticized strongly.
