Bhopal, July 21 -- The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill - 2026 was passed in the Madhya Pradesh State Assembly on Tuesday. With this, MP has become the fourth state in the country to pass the Bill after Uttarakhand, Gujarat, and Assam.
The UCC bill seeks to replace religious personal laws with a common set of laws governing marriage, divorce, inheritance, and adoption for all citizens.
During discussions on the Bill in the MP Assembly, the opposition Congress strongly objected to the draft law. The party criticized the BJP for having an ulterior motive and political agenda behind it.
