Hyderabad, Sept. 15 -- BJP Rajya Sabha member and Parliamentary Board member K Laxman on Tuesday condemned MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi's remarks on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), alleging that he was giving the issue a communal colour for political gains.

In a statement, Laxman said the UCC was neither anti-Muslim nor anti-Hindu, but aimed at ensuring equal rights and equal laws for all citizens and eliminating discrimination in the name of personal laws.

He said Article 44 of the Constitution envisages a Uniform Civil Code as part of the Directive Principles of State Policy.
