Chandrapur, Feb. 28 -- Two women were killed in separate tiger attacks in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district within 48 hours, triggering tension and renewed concerns over escalating human-wildlife conflict in the region, officials said on Saturday.
In the latest incident, Sunita Shamarav Bhoir was attacked by a tiger around 7:50 am on Saturday while picking cotton in a field near Somnath village in Mool taluka. She died on the spot. Women working nearby raised an alarm, following which the tiger fled into the adjoining forest area.
The incident sparked anger among villagers, who gathered at the spot and initially refused to allow the body to be shifted for post-mortem until senior forest department officials arrived. Police personnel were ...
