Bhagalpur, June 27 -- Two minor sisters drowned while bathing in the Kataria river under the Ghogha police station area of Bihar's Bhagalpur district on Saturday, police said.

Kahalgaon Sub-Divisional Police Officer (First) Dilip Kumar said the incident occurred when Sanju Devi, wife of Anil Mandal of Amapur village, had gone to the river with her two daughters for a bath.

During the bath, all three reportedly entered deep water and began drowning. While Sanju Devi managed to swim to safety, her daughters could not be rescued.

On hearing her cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot and, with the assistance of divers, launched a search operation. The bodies of the two girls were recovered after nearly an hour.
