Bhubaneswar, Aug. 10 -- Deeply aggrieved over the alleged failure of the authorities to redress their longstanding grievances, two farmers attempted to end their lives by consuming poison during a public grievance hearing in Rajnagar tehsil of Kendrapara district on Monday.
The incident occurred while District Collector Raghuram R. Iyer was presiding over the grievance redressal hearing and listening to petitions submitted by residents of the tehsil.
The two farmers, identified as Ganesh Chandra Mandal of Talchua and Ramkrushna Mandal of Dholamara village, suddenly consumed poison in an apparent suicide bid. However, police personnel present at the spot promptly intervened and prevented the duo from taking the extreme step.
