TVK govt rechristens DMK's housing scheme named after Karuna, to construct 70,000 houses

Chennai, Aug. 5 -- Renaming the previous DMK regime's Kalaignar's Kanavu Illam Thittam scheme named after late Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi as a new scheme christened "Vetri Veedu Thittam", the TVK government would construct 70,000 pucca houses this year to make Tamil Nadu hut-free, Finance Minister N.Marie Wilson told the State Assembly on Wednesday.

Presenting the TVK regime's first budget, he said the Government envisions a rural Tamil Nadu with digitally empowered local bodies that build self-reliant and resilient communities, sustainable infrastructure that supports growth, and rising living standards that ultimately eradicate rural poverty to ensure a dignified livelihood for every family.
