Bengaluru, July 4 -- A wild tusker was rescued after an intense, hours-long operation after it became dangerously trapped in a railway barricade near Arekoppa village in Kanakapura taluk of Bengaluru South (Ramanagara district), along the fringe of the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary.

Acording forest officials on Saturday, the elephant had reportedly strayed into nearby agricultural fields on Wednesday night in search of food and was attempting to return to the forest at daybreak when it tried to squeeze through a narrow gap in the iron fencing. It became completely wedged mid-body in the barricade, leaving it immobilised and in visible distress for several hours.
