Moscow, Aug. 23 -- /SPUTNIK)Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday that he understands Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk's position on the Nord Stream pipeline dispute, arguing that Warsaw's stance is largely driven by economic considerations.
Putin said he had known Tusk for years, including during the period when plans for the Nord Stream 2 pipeline were being developed and construction was underway.
"The motives are very simple - economic expediency," Putin told Russian state television journalist Pavel Zarubin.
