Washington, Aug. 5 -- President Donald Trump said that the Strait of Hormuz would reopen "very soon" as negotiations involving Iran and Oman advance, while warning Tehran it would face devastating military action if it abandoned efforts to reach a nuclear agreement with the United States.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump struck a familiar mix of optimism and threat, insisting diplomacy remained his preferred path but declaring that Iran would face severe consequences if talks collapsed.
His remarks came as reports suggested Washington, Tehran and Oman were nearing a temporary agreement to restore shipping through the strategic waterway and revive stalled nuclear negotiations.
