Washington, May 24 -- US President Donald Trump on Saturday said that negotiators from the US and Iran were "getting a lot closer" to finalising an agreement.

According to CBS News, sources familiar with the talks said that the latest proposal under discussion includes a mechanism for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, the partial unfreezing of Iranian assets held abroad, and a continuation of negotiations under a broader interim framework.

Speaking to the media group in a phone interview, Trump declined to discuss specifics of the proposal but said that "every day it gets better and better".

"I can't tell you before I tell them, right?" he said.
