Washington, April 18 -- Amid a rare revolt among House Republicans over the FISA Act (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act), the party didn't just deliver an unexpected setback for Speaker Mike Johnson by blocking the bill's renewal, but for President Donald Trump as well, as the GOP has almost been fully in favour of Trump's bills.
At the centre stage of the tensions is Section 702 of FISA, a tool long used by US intelligence agencies to monitor foreign targets. Despite the White House pushing hard for a clean extension, more than two dozen GOP lawmakers broke ranks, blocking procedural votes in a rare show of defiance from within the party itself, reports Axios.
