Ankara, July 9 -- US President Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that Iran had reached out to Washington seeking renewed negotiations, despite him declaring that the ceasefire framework between the two countries was effectively "over."Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One while returning from the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump said Tehran was eager to revive talks following a series of military exchanges in the Gulf.

"Iran called a little while ago," Trump said, adding that the Iranian leadership wanted "to make a deal so badly."However, the US president questioned whether Tehran could be trusted to honour any future agreement.

"I don't know if they're worthy of making a deal. I don't know if they'll honour a deal," he said.
