Washington, June 2 -- US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he is appointing William J. Pulte, the head of the U.S. Federal Housing Finance Agency, as Acting Director of National Intelligence.

The appointment follows the resignation announcement by former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard on May 22, with her departure set to take effect on June 30. On the same day, Trump had indicated that Principal Deputy Director Aaron Lukas would assume the role of acting intelligence chief.
