Bengaluru, Sept. 12 -- Two-time champions Triveni Continental Kings dramatically derailed defending champions Alpine APL Pipers' campaign on Saturday, throwing the Global Chess League final race wide open and helping Ganges Grandmasters secure their place in the title clash.

The Kings produced one of the most significant results of the league stage, defeating Pipers 11-6 in the decisive round-robin encounter and becoming the first team in Season 4 to beat the defending champions twice.

The defeat left Pipers' hopes of defending their title hanging by a thread, with their final fate now dependent on the outcome of the last league match between FYERS American Knights and CheQ Mumba Masters.
