Agartala, July 22 -- Tripura Police arrested a man who was on the run for two years after deceiving numerous individuals with false promises of overseas employment, police said here on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Saif-Ul-Mia from a bordering village of Sonamura in Tripura's Sepahijala district, allegedly defrauded 54 people, including 22 victims in a major case, by offering fake job opportunities abroad and collecting about Rs 35 lakh from them.

Victims reported to police that Mia provided them with counterfeit visas and air tickets on the day of their supposed departure in 2024, only for airport officials to discover the forgery during document verification.
