Agartala, May 13 -- A drug trafficker in Tripura's Dhalai district has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh for his involvement in a major narcotics seizure two years ago.
The convict, identified as Supankar Debnath (35) from Dhanpur in Sepahijala district, was found guilty under various provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act by the District and Sessions Court, Dhalai.
The court also ruled that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional one-year rigorous imprisonment. The case began on August 10, 2024, when Ambassa police received specific intelligence inputs about narcotics being transported in a Bolero vehicle.
