Agartala, May 14 -- The West Tripura District Consumers Court has sentenced a fraudulent housing promoter to three years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1 lakh for failing to deliver on a contractual agreement to furnish and decorate a flat as promised to the buyer.
If the promoter fails to pay the fine, the court ruled that he would face an additional three months of imprisonment. The case revolves around Abhijit Paul, a resident of Agartala, who purchased a flat from promoter Shubhradip Majumder six years ago. As per their agreement, the promoter was responsible for completing the half-built flat with all necessary furnishing and basic decorations.
