Kolkata, June 26 -- The Trinamool Congress on Friday made its stand clear on the proposed implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in West Bengal, asserting that the party would oppose the legislation when it is introduced in the state Assembly.
Senior Trinamool leader and MP Saugata Roy said the party had consistently opposed the concept of a Uniform Civil Code, arguing that there was no necessity for such legislation. "We have maintained from the very beginning that there is no need for such a law. The BJP is attempting to push this legislation to reflect its hostile attitude towards minorities," Roy said.
