Kolkata, April 5 -- In its maiden judgement after its formation, the SIR Tribunal has directed that the name of Congress-nominated candidate Mehtab Sheikh be restored to the voter list in Murshidabad's Farakka constituency.

Sheikh's name had been removed during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, preventing him from filing his nomination despite being a declared Congress candidate.

The tribunal, led by former Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court T.S. Sivagnanam, ordered that his name be reinstated immediately.

The Election Commission had published the final voter list on February 28, with over 60 lakh voters under consideration.
