Haimara, Sept. 29 -- Forest officials on Tuesday successfully tranquilised a tigress at Bihar's Valmiki Tiger Reserve, paving the way for its proposed reintroduction in West Bengal's Buxa Tiger Reserve in Alipurduar district.
West Bengal Forest Minister Manoj Kumar Oraon said on Tuesday evening that the tigress was tranquilised after forest officials made repeated attempts over the past seven days. The animal was among three tigresses shortlisted by experts for the reintroduction programme.
According to the minister, the process of safely securing and caging the tigress has already started. It is proposed to be airlifted by a special helicopter from Valmiki Tiger Reserve to Hasimara Air Force Station and then taken to Buxa Tiger Reserve. ...
