Aizawl, March 24 -- Tobacco consumption remains a serious public health concern in Mizoram, with surveys indicating alarmingly high usage not only among adults but also among school-going children, health officials said on Tuesday.

According to data highlighted during a state-level programme, Mizoram records one of the highest rates of tobacco use in the country, both in terms of smoking and smokeless forms. Findings from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) 2016-17 show that 58.7 per cent of the population in the state consumes tobacco in some form.
