Chennai, March 30 -- The Flying Squad and Surveillance Team offiicials deployed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to monitor poll related expenditure, have till date seized cash and other goods, including liquor and jewellery to the tune of Rs 296.40 crores in Tamil Nadu which goes to polls on April 23 to elect the 234-member 17th Legislative Assembly.

Chief Electoral Officer Ms Archana Patnaik said on Monday that in order to ensure transparency and accountability in the conduct of elections, the ECI has deployed 136 General Observers, 40 Police Observers and 151 Expenditure Observers and they assigned to the 234 Assembly constituencies across Tamil Nadu.
