Chennai, June 22 -- Averring that the threat posed by Karnataka's Mekedatu dam project was still not over, the Tamil Nadu government on Monday strongly defended the state's push for setting up a new Tribunal to adjudicate the contentious dispute, amid a walk out by the Opposition AIADMK disagreeing with the amendment incorporated in the special resolution on the demand for a new Tribunal and Speaker JCD Prabhakar refusing its demand to raise a privilege issue.

The AIADMK members led by its Legislature Party leader and former CM Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) walked out after Speaker J.C.D.Prabhakar, despite several requests, refused to raise a privilege issue given notice of by EPS regarding the amendment on the demand for separate tribunal....
