Chennai, June 19 -- The Tamil Nadu Assembly on Friday adopted an unanimous resolution strongly opposing the Karnataka government's proposal to construct a new dam at Mekedatu across river Cauvery, while urging the Centre to establish a new Tribunal under the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act, 1956, to resolve the dispute.
The resolution, moved by Chief Minister Vijay, was adopted unanimously, with the leaders of various parties, including ruling TVK's ally, the Congress, the principal Opposition DMK and AIADMK, pledging their full support to it.
However, the lone member of the BJP--an ally of the AIADMK--was not present in the House when the resolution was adopted.
