Kolkata, June 3 -- The deepening crisis within the Trinamool Congress on Wednesday triggered sharp reactions from the BJP, with West Bengal minister and former state BJP president Dilip Ghosh claiming that the developments signalled the beginning of the end of "family rule" in the ruling party.

Reacting to reports that a group of rebel Trinamool MLAs had backed expelled leader Ritabrata Banerjee for the post of Legislature Party leader, Ghosh said the unrest vindicated his earlier prediction that the party would splinter if it lost power. "I had said earlier that if the party loses the election, it will break apart. It was essentially a family-run party. Many wanted to leave but were afraid," Ghosh told reporters.
