Kolkata, June 9 -- Trinamool Congress leader Naushad Alam, who is facing multiple charges including extortion and criminal intimidation, has been arrested in Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.

Alam had been evading arrest for several weeks.

According to police sources, Alam was apprehended in Kashmir following an operation carried out by the Detective Department of the Barrackpore Police Commissionerate.

Investigators had been tracking Alam's movements since he allegedly went into hiding shortly after the declaration of the Assembly election results on May 4.

Alam, who once served as the minority cell president of the Dum Dum-Barrackpore organisational district of the TMC, also held responsibilities in the Barrackpore municipality. He was...
