Agartala, May 25 -- At least three policemen in Tripura's Khowai district were closed Sunday night, and a departmental investigation has been launched following initial findings indicating their involvement in the misappropriation of a large quantity of confiscated narcotic cough syrup during an anti-drug operation.
The officers in question have been named as Inspector Ajit Debbarma, Sub-Inspector Rajendra Reang, and Constable Sukanta Deb, all assigned to Teliamura police station. The issue arose when it was alleged that the implicated officers stopped an Eco vehicle in the Maharanipur area on the night of May 20 and reportedly seized nearly 6,000 bottles of the prohibited Eskuf cough syrup, which is frequently misused as a narcotic.
