Imphal, May 13 -- Three persons, including prominent Church leaders, were allegedly shot dead in an ambush by suspected militants near Kotlen area in Manipur's Kangpokpi district today even as tensions escalated with shutdowns and protests across the district.

According to police, unknown armed persons opened fire on two vehicles near Kotzim and Kotlen villages, killing three persons on the spot and injuring four others. Security personnel rushed to the area and launched an inquiry into the incident.

The deceased were identified as Rev. V. Sitlhou, Rev. Kaigoulen and Pastor Paogoulen. Three of the injured were later shifted to Shija Hospitals in Imphal West for treatment. Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh , Dy Chief Minister, ...
