Kolkata, Sept. 12 -- The investigation into the rescue of five orangutans from a forest in Odisha's Balasore district has taken a new turn, with Odisha Police detaining three people from Digha in East Midnapore district of West Bengal.
The three are being questioned over their suspected links to the illegal trafficking of the rare animals.
The Odisha Police Special Task Force (STF), which is probing the case, was assisted by the East Midnapore district police in tracking down the suspects.
The five orangutans were rescued last Tuesday from a forest near Barapai village in the Bhograi area of Balasore.
Orangutans are not native to India and are primarily found in the forests of Indonesia and Malaysia.
