Agartala, Aug. 26 -- The Tripura Human Rights Commission (THRC) on Wednesday sought clarification from the North Tripura District Magistrate regarding the land status of a woman whose husband was allegedly abducted and killed by NLFT extremists in 2020.

The Commission, headed by Justice Arindam Lodh, took suo motu cognizance of the matter following media reports highlighting the difficulties faced by Shipra Debnath, widow of late Litan Debnath.

According to the report cited in the THRC order, Litan Debnath was allegedly abducted at gunpoint on November 26, 2020. His decomposed remains were recovered 49 days later. He was reportedly the sole breadwinner of the family, comprising his wife and four daughters.
