Thiruvananthapuram, May 22 -- Ending days of speculation and political drama, senior Congress leader Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan was elected Speaker of the 16th Kerala Legislative Assembly with a decisive majority and without any cross-voting or invalid ballots.
In the Speaker election that reflected the exact political strength of the Assembly, Thiruvanchoor secured 101 votes. LDF candidate A.C. Moideen received 35 votes, while BJP-NDA candidate B.B. Gopakumar got three votes. This also marked the first time the BJP fielded a candidate in a Kerala Assembly Speaker election.
