Hyderabad, July 2 -- Tension gripped Hyderabad on Thursday as a political face-off between Telangana ministers and BRS leaders over alleged corruption in Gurukul residential schools escalated, leading to the detention of former minister T Harish Rao and several BRS leaders by the police.
The Congress government had accepted the BRS challenge for a public discussion on allegations of irregularities in procurement for Gurukul hostels. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Adluri Laxman, Mohammed Azharuddin and other leaders reached the Martyrs' Memorial (Gun Park) to participate in the debate, while BRS leaders initially insisted that the discussion should be held at the Somajiguda Press Club.
