Washington, Aug. 4 -- Alexandra Eala won her first WTA Tour singles title, beating topseed Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 in the final of the Mubadala DC Open in Washington, D.C.

The 21-year-old became the first tennis player from the Philippines to win a WTA Tour singles title on Monday.

Ranked No. 28 at the start of the week, she's projected to break into the world's top 20 for the first time ahead of the U.S. Open.

The final began on August 2 but was suspended by heavy rain and lightning, with Pegula leading 6-4, 1-2. Play resumed at midday on Monday, and Eala took control from there, closing out the match in one hour and 45 minutes, according to olympics.com.
