Chennai, May 23 -- In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old girl, who went missing on Thursday evening, was sexually assaulted and murdered in Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu late on Friday evening even as police arrested two people and invoking the provisions of POCSO Act against them.
The body of the girl, a Ccass V student, was found dead in a pond at Kannampalayam, near Sulur.
The incident triggered strong condemnation from Opposition parties and Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay assured that the government would secure stringent punishment to the culprit for indulging in this heinous act.
