Chennai, May 23 -- In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old girl, who went missing on Thursday evening, was found dead in a pond near Sulur in Coimabtore district of Tamil Nadu late on Friday evening.
Police could not immediately confirm whether the girl was subjected to sexual assault and said only the post mortem report could throw more light on it and the exact cause of her death would be known.
According to police, the girl, a resident of a village near Sulur, had gone to a nearby shop close to her home, but did not return thereafter. As she failed to return home, her family and villagers launched a search, but she could not be traced.
