Hyderabad, Sept. 3 -- National BC Welfare Association president and Rajya Sabha member R Krishnaiah on Thursday demanded the immediate release of Rs 8,000 crore in pending fee reimbursement and scholarship dues, alleging that the delay was severely affecting lakhs of BC, SC, ST and minority students.
Addressing a protest by students in Dilsukhnagar, Krishnaiah alleged that certificates of around 4 lakh students who completed their courses were being withheld by colleges over unpaid fees.
He said nearly 30,000 students skipped engineering counselling, while 50 per cent of PG seats and 70,000 degree seats remained vacant.
He also claimed that around 300 colleges had shut down due to the financial crisis caused by pending reimbursements.
