New Delhi, Sept. 25 -- Tata Sons has told Tata Trusts, its largest shareholder, that N Chandrasekaran's reappointment as chairman for a further five-year term is legally valid, people familiar with the matter said.

The company has shared three legal opinions in support of its position on the resolution passed by the Tata Sons board on September 17. The response came after Tata Trusts sought clarifications from the holding company following a contentious board meeting last week.
